“The world through my son’s eyes”

#story

Growing up in the early ’90s, most families would have photos taken to hang at home or insert in a photo album. In 2016 when I started my own family, the reoccurring question in my mind was; how do I capture authentic family moments in the age of iPhones and Instagram?

With everyone having access to digital photography layered with filters, there is a level of authenticity that feels lost;

what I call the “squarespacification” of images.

I figured the only person that could help me break this mold was my 2-year-old son, since he has no preconcieved notion of a perfect image.

In early 2018, I gave my son an old canon point and shoot, which led to this experiment.

A series of portraits captured by a 37” creature without any rules, imperfect frames, all blurs, and constant movements all captured at will.

The camera was Kingalex’s toy for roughly 21 days, and after taking 757 photos, it met its final moment drowned in a cup of water.

RIP canon point and shoot.
